Treatment for Anxiety
Glimpses from my work with clients
Question: I suffer anxiety; have been anxious for many years. I am very tired of feeling anxious. Anxiety became so normal to me that I only notice it when I feel completely drained and tired. I lately feel like I am suffering because of how anxiety makes me feel. Please provide explanations for me to understand anxiety.
Answer: I completely understand how you feel because anxiety can be extremely debilitating to our human body/mind/spirit. You are not alone as most of people around us suffer anxiety, in either milder or more severe forms, depending on one’s capacity to cope with stress. You situation is very unique though because your anxiety is caused by your unique life circumstances, which are very important to you. Living under constant pressure of those circumstances perhaps makes you feel overwhelmed, so you never receive true rest for your mind and a body. This is anxiety. Restlessness, irritability, inability to cope, lack of concentration are common symptoms of anxiety. If you notice how you feel during anxiety, you will notice most all of those symptoms, more or less.
Anxiety could be caused by different circumstances and could vary in its severity. One of the most common types of anxiety is what call a situational anxiety, which is caused by your unique ability to cope with stressful life situations presented to you moment to moment. Another type of anxiety might be fear based and are manifesting itself in the symptoms of panic disorder, social anxiety, and different types of the phobias. This type of anxiety is becoming more and more prevalent in our society due to lack of genuine connectedness between people, which is causing for many people strong fear of social situations. The most severe types of anxiety are with symptoms related to trauma experienced sometime in person’s lifetime, which is called Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. Another severe type of anxiety is related to compulsive thoughts and obsessive behaviors, which is called Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
This is a very brief description of types and causes for anxiety, which might bring you some clarity on what anxiety is about.
If you suffer anxiety of any severity, you need help. You need good amount of healing. I believe that our mind-body-spirit is much interconnected and should be treated as ONE. We call this type - holistic healing. Because your body-mind-spirit functions as a whole system, or Being, all parts of you constantly and without failure communicate with each other. So, what happens when your mind communicates to your body anxiety? Your body feels anxious, restless, and jittery. It becomes very difficult to concentrate, pay attention; it affects your sleep as your mind continues communicating with your body only one thing - anxiety. This type of situation might cause your body to develop physical illness, which is caused by anxiety. Going to your doctor might leave you with nothing as the doctor will not know the cause to your physical symptom. However, good doctor will notice your anxiety and will suggest speaking to a therapist. Another words, healing from inside is needed.
So, now you can understand how your body-mind-spirit functions as ONE. Again, this approach we call a holistic treatment. Healing your mind improves all conditions related to your body and spirit as all parts of you receive their healing simultaneously.
